The MCC is pleased to announce the appointment of Marina Habib as Program Coordinator. Please see below an introduction from Marina!

Hello, my name is Marina Habib (she/her), and I am beyond excited to be the new Program Coordinator for the UCSB MultiCultural Center. As a recent UCSB graduate with a degree in Communication and Sociology, I am deeply honored to return to the MCC, a space that has profoundly influenced my journey in activism, social justice, and overall personal growth. It is a privilege to contribute to and build upon the impactful work established long before my arrival.

In my role, I develop and oversee programs for our quarterly calendar – balancing the need to address social justice topics with opportunities for joy and creative expression.

Central to my approach is a belief in the transformative power of love and embracing the collective. As Martin Luther King Jr. wrote, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” This quote deeply resonates with me and fuels my commitment to fostering compassion and kindness in all that I do. I am passionate about building inclusive spaces that honor diverse narratives — promoting cultural awareness, sensitivity, and appreciation. My focus is on advancing social justice work that transcends mere activism, aiming to foster high-caliber conversations and create safe spaces that uplift students, particularly those within the margins of marginalized communities.

Cheers to building a more inclusive and compassionate campus community, where we all shine our light onto one another and grow together. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any collaboration ideas or initiates, I look forward to seeing you at ALL of our events!

Fun Fact: I love to explore various art mediums, especially painting, and I enjoy engaging in diverse forms of content creation.

With gratitude,

Marina Habib
