THIRD WARD TX is the story of Project Row Houses, a successful public art program by local artists in inner-city Houston. By boarding up abandoned houses and creating a 'drive-by' exhibit to providing free refurbished houses for single mothers in college and an after-school program for local kids, these artists have helped to revive their section of Third Ward, a historically African-American neighborhood.Discussion with the director following the screening. An Evening of Music from the Wassoulou Region of Mali, West Africa with Mamadou and Vanessa Sidibe

Winners of several prestigious music awards, Mamadou and Vanessa perform soulful, uplifting rhythms from the historic Wassoulou Region of Mali, believed to be the birthplace of the American Blues. Mamadou Sidibe, master of the traditional kamale ngoni (12 stringed hunters harp), and Vanessa are joined with virtuoso balafon player Balla Kouyate and master of the djembe, Karamba Diabate. Race and the New Biocitizen Dorothy Roberts

In this talk Dorothy Roberts discusses a new racial politics that relies on re-inventing the political system of race in biological terms using genomic science and biotechnologies. Her presentation is based on her new book Fatal Invention: How Science, Politics, and Big Business Re-create Race in the Twenty-first Century. Roberts, the Kirkland & Ellis Professor at Northwestern University School of Law, is also author of the award-winning books Killing the Black Body: Race, Reproduction, and the Meaning of Liberty andShattered Bonds: The Color of Child Welfare.
In conjunction with the Annual Hull Lecture on Women and Social Justice.
