Mija
MCC Theater
Mija is a short film that delves into the lives of Doris Muñoz and Jacks Haupt, two talented young Mexican-American women navigating the complexities of pursuing their dreams while balancing the realities of family responsibilities and cultural expectations. As the daughters of undocumented immigrants, Doris and Jacks face unique challenges in the music industry, where they strive to make a name for themselves. This emotional and inspiring story captures the struggles and triumphs of these two trailblazers as they redefine success, honor their roots, and carve out their own paths in a world that often overlooks voices like theirs.

Exhibition: October 3-December 12
The MCC Fall 2024 Art Exhibition at UCSB is a dynamic showcase featuring student and community artists' powerful and transformative work. As a multipurpose center, the MCC Lounge is often a space to study, de-stress, and find peace. With healing as a goal of the MCC, art serves as a therapeutic medium, offering solace and a means of processing trauma and adversity. The pieces in this collection convey resilience, hope, and the transformative power of art to mend and uplift the human spirit. This theme emphasizes the role of creativity in personal and communal healing.

Join us for the HSP Community Series, A Ki to be FREE, a space to share, reflect, and connect around issues at the heart of community and identity. Held on Wednesdays at noon in the MCC Lounge until November 20th, this series invites you to bring your lunch and your voice as we explore meaningful questions together.
Our next session on November 13th will focus on the theme:
How can our community respond to the emotional impact of the election, particularly for those feeling anxious, fearful, or hopeful?
Each week, we’ll tackle new topics that deepen our understanding of community building, resilience, and support within the unique context of our academic space.
